Intro to Sight Reading Part 2
We talked last week about learning the notes on the music staff in preparation for moving on to playing those notes on our guitar. I hope and trust that you have looked over and developed a method or adopted my own of recalling the notes. You do not have to have them completely down to move on. You will find even more creative ways of remembering notes as you begin to play more and more.
One thing you may want to keep in mind to help you gravitate away from using methods such as (FACE) and (Every Good Boy Does Fine) is to just remember things like, “The middle line of the staff is ALWAYS going to be a “B” note”. The top line will always be a F. The bottom line, always an E. This is going to be the only way finding speed and increasing your speed when it comes to sight reading.
I have some images posted to work in tandem with the video. Image 1-1 is just a recap of our last lesson on learning the notes of the staff, but also including the upper and lower ledger lines. Image 1-2 is the “Cherry Picked” G form position we want to use in playing our music. Image 1-3 is the full range “Key of C” scale in which we have isolated our G form from in the middle of the neck. Image 1-4 is our sight reading example.
Next week we will take it a step further with an easy peace of music. Hope you enjoy and as always take your time, play slow. Any qestions just shoot an email and I will get with you ASAP!!
